Summer Well Visit Scheduling

School's out and it's officially the start of summer! Before you grab your sunscreen and begin checking off your summer to-do list, we'd like to remind you of some fireworks and swim safety tips, as well as share PHCA updates.

4th of July Safety
4th of July Safety
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) urges families not to buy fireworks for their own or their children's use, as thousands of people, most often children and teens, are injured each year while using consumer fireworks.

  • Fireworks can result in severe burns and blindness, even under close adult supervision.
  • Fireworks that are often thought to be safe, such as sparklers, can reach temperatures above 1000° Fahrenheit and can burn users and bystanders.
  • The AAP recommends families attend community fireworks displays run by professionals rather than using fireworks at home.

Swim Safety Tips
Swim Safety Tips
Swimming is a fantastic form of exercise and a major component of summer break fun. But parents should remember that swimming also comes with risk. Follow these tips from the American Academy of Pediatrics to protect children from drowning.

  • Never leave children alone in or near the pool or spa, even for a moment; close supervision by a responsible adult is the best way to prevent drowning in children.
  • At the beach, stay within the designated swimming area and ideally within the visibility of a lifeguard.
  • Never swim alone. Even good swimmers need buddies!
